HOUSTON DRAIN CLOGS
How to prevent drain clogs, and how we can help if you can’t
As far as kitchen sinks go there are two different types of clogs that cause problems: the shallow clog that is located in the piping directly under the sink, or the deep clog that is further down in the piping underneath the foundation.
A shallow clog can be cleared by a John Moore Services plumbing technician by emptying the P-trap under the sink.
The most common culprits of shallow clogs inside the piping are cereal, rice, and egg shells. Many people rinse dishes in the sink without removing all of the food – but even tiny pieces get stuck inside because they expand when they get wet or soggy. Installing a strainer in the sink will prevent these small bits of food from collecting and clogging the sink. It also prevents a foul odor from developing in the drain.
Clogs that are deep inside the piping call for a different plan of action. These clogs are usually caused by grease or any other thick substance that has become stuck. Our technicians always recommend that you never put grease down the sink; always throw it away.
If you do get a deep clog, we clear the pipes by running an organic chemical through the piping that eats up all the clogged stuff and cleans the pipes.
Remember, estimates are always from free John Moore Services, so call or request service to set up a consultation. If you need service right away or at a very specific time, we have some faster service options if you can’t wait!
HOUSTON WATER LEAKS
Dripping faucets or a spike in your water bill? We can detect and repair any water leak.
Have you suddenly noticed a spike in your water bill? That can be a sign of a water leak in your house. Leaky faucets and pipes are common problems, especially here in Houston. The City of Houston provides its citizens with hard water which creates calcium and scale buildup inside the piping in your house. These buildups cause the pipes to rust on the inside, producing microscopic fibers that flush through the system, creating leaks.
Here are some other important things to check that can reveal a water leak before it does a lot of damage.
KITCHEN SINKS Most homeowners keep an array of household cleaning supplies like carpet sprays, dishwasher detergent, and countertop cleaners underneath the kitchen sink. While having ready access to the tools you need is important, remember that all of those items could be hiding a leak under your sink. Purchase a few inexpensive buckets or under-sink caddies to make storing and removing those cleaning supplies a lot easier so you can regularly check for leaks.
WATER HEATERS In some homes, the water heater actually has the pressure release valve plugged directly into a drain. If there’s a leak in that area, the water will consistently drain from the tank, but you won’t notice anything out of the ordinary. If you actually can’t get to where the pressure relief valve is located, you might try listening for any unusual sounds from the tank — such as spitting or hissing.
TOILET TANKS leaks often go undetected. Put some food dye in the toilet tank and wait a little while. If you find later that there is colored water in the toilet bowl, there is a leak that needs to be repaired.
SPRINKLER SYSTEMS check the areas surrounding each sprinkler head. If any area seems to be remaining moister than the others, there’s a chance you’ve got a leak at that location.
POOLS If you find that you have to replace water more often than usual and if conditions have not changed in your immediate environment, there’s a chance that you’re dealing with a leak. When it comes to locating leaks, it’s sometimes easiest and most effective to hire a plumber who knows precisely what to look for, where the most common problems can occur, and how to gain access to areas that might not be obvious. By working with a John Moore Services licensed plumbing technician, you can save time and money in the long run, rather than attempting to locate and fix the source of a water leak on your own.
HOUSTON WATER QUALITY
Even treated water that meets EPA standards has contaminants. We offer solutions that will remove 99% of them, and we’ll test your water quality for free!
- According to the EPA, the average American uses 90 gallons of water in their home a day, and each American household uses about 107,000 gallons every year. Even though it’s true that Houston watermeets the EPA’s standards, you would be amazed at the minerals, chemicals, and even bacteria that are still in it.
- A water softener will get your clothes, skin and hair cleaner and reduce the amount of soap scum on plumbing fixtures and bathroom surfaces as well as extend the life of your pipes by ridding your household water of damaging calcium levels.
- And home water filtration rids your water of chemicals and other pollutants that can cause health problems and can shorten the life of your appliances. A filtration system guarantees that every drop of water in your house is pure.
Still not sure? Call John Moore Services for a water quality assessment in your home, as well as a free estimate on a water softener and filtration system.
HOUSTON WATER HEATERS
Don’t wait until it breaks —if it’s 10 or more years old, it’s time! New models are 20% more efficient.
Water heaters that need to be replaced show some signs before they break down. Some of these are: making noises that sound like popcorn; not delivering enough hot water for everyone in the house to take a shower; developing rust stains on the outside of the water heater; and having hot water that smells like rotten eggs. If you are seeing or hearing any of these things, it’s time to consider replacing your water heater with a new energy efficient model.
Annual maintenance is critical to keep your water heater in good working order. Flushing your water heater once per year will keep it running longer! Not to mention that an annual inspection can help to spot a breakdown before it happens.
Whether you need maintenance, repair or replacement, the expert technicians at John Moore Services are here to help. Remember, estimates are always free from John Moore Services, so call today or click here to set up a consultation. If you need service right away or at a very specific time, we have some faster service options if you can’t wait!
